PrOSPER

(previously called ForMore)

establishing content design practices at a fintech start up

Problem

Working at a start up means you get to defined the problem you tackle which is always nice. For Prosper (previously called ForMore) that meant tackling the word of ambiguous pension and investment fees. Founded in 2021 in London by Nick Perrett, Nick realised he was losing £2,400 a year in pension fees and so he decided to do something about it. Since then the Prosper team have worked hard to build a pension and investment app that offers fair fees and talks about them in a clear and transparent, so members can keep more of their money.

I started working with Prosper in late 2022 as their first UX and content design hire. When I joined, the business had a newly created brand identity and tone of voice but no one had applied it strategically to their first app release. Or, thought about how to embed content consistency from day one. So – that’s the problem I decided to tackle.

Solution

I worked in a small team with a product designer, developer and manager to write and design the key onboarding journey’s in Prosper first app release. This version of the app was going to be for invite-only members, but it still needed to be clear, accessible and consistent.

Behind the scenes I worked hard to establish fundamental content design practices that would help to set the business up for success as they grew. I built a copy system to make it easy to catalogue, store and update product content. I outlined a product content strategy that aligned to the brand’s identity and the founder’s future goals. I created proto user personas based on early market research to make sure our product journeys addressed their key needs.

As the only content person, I also supported the wider business with things such as editing web copy, writing marketing emails and supporting customer research.

Impact

After 6 months at Prosper I made the hard decision to leave for another opportunity. When I left Prosper, the team were preparing for their first public launch, and thanks to mine and the team’s efforts the app’s core product journeys were fully design, tested and optimised. As of December 2023, Prosper is continuing to thrive. They recently completed a successful public investment round, smashing their target by %.
